At the festival, the presence of the Healing Arts Pavilion connects our healing traditions (as embedded in oral history and practices) with literate practices (books about Filipino healing traditions).

Textbook history lists nine women romantically linked to Jose Rizal, but there are a few more overlooked to round the list to thirteen.

Rizal was serious enough to marry three of these thirteen women, and there is a debate on whether Rizal did marry Josephine Bracken before his execution. Did Rizal have children? What about the urban legend that Rizal is the father of Adolf Hitler?

Amidst all the research and gossip one woman stands alone, one woman Rizal loved among all, but could never marry.

Popular food and cultural heritage writer Felice Santa Maria, author of the award-winning book, The Governor-General’s Kitchen, will present a rich collection of vignettes about the Philippines’ culinary traditions, from sourcing and production to the consumption of different Filipino food. She will discuss the evolution of food and food-ways throughout the different periods of Philippine history. Includes food tasting.
